I tried covering it with cardboard and it seemed to enjoy that too. These weedy areas make gardening less than fun. Still you look as if you are getting the better of yours and you have so much looking good. And it is a pretty plant that bees do seem to love, and I think you can get some less-invasive cultivars (it's too bad I didn't buy those instead...). I'm sure you have many lovely flowers to make bouquets of growing in your beautiful Florida gardens, even if they aren't tulips (which don't always make the best cut flowers anyway -- their stems keep growing in the vase, so they flop if you don't keep cutting them). But perhaps you have a different kind that isn't so bad? Or maybe your soil is better able to discourage it? I'm glad you are enjoying some nice days to work in the gardens down there in Texas. We have a lot of violets too, but they're pretty easy to pull out, and the flowers are so cute that sometimes I hate to pull it (but I still always do). Those self-seeding annuals aren't too bad -- it's the ones with runners that are the devil, in my opinion. Hope you don't have too many of those. Well done though for sticking with it - You will be so pleased when everything is done and you can just sit back and admire the efforts you went to. It is amazing how overwhelming it can all be sometimes, especially when plants are just way too happy and start taking over - It seems as if you just turn around and they have turned into a jungle! I think your garden looks very lovely though despite all the work. You have so many gorgeous spring bulbs - Those tulips!! Just glorious! Of course the views are spectacular too. Can't wait to see those beautiful peonies!
Enjoy your weekend!
- Kate xxAnonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01080194896492043939noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5499733980063503352.post-61676147575815994682016-04-28T05:21:32.977-05:002016-04-28T05:21:32.977-05:00I, too, am fighting with the Obedient plant. I know what you mean about clean out and invasive plants. I have had pink obedient plant for years; it hasn't seemed invasive but maybe I need to get rid of it just in case. Some invasives I've dealt with over the years include mint, comfrey, Queen Ann's lace, lady bells, campanula, and those orange lilies that have big black seeds up and down the stem...As for this year, in addition to fighting lady bells and VIOLETS (how horrible they are!), I have hundreds of little seedlings from Verbena bonariensis, cleome and kiss-me-over-the-garden-gate. Those are annuals in my garden, and they go to seed big time. I don't mind those too much because I can move a few into places where I want them, and then pull the rest. While I certainly have used round-up as well as weed-b-gone, I've never had to do a whole bed. How heartbreaking for you!
You have a lot of projects to do. Such is the life of a gardener!
